A Study on Close Social Relationships across a Life Span

Abstract
In order to study the characteristics of close social relationships, the differences in close social relationships in accordance with gender and age were studied: The subjects consisted of preschoolers and elementary/ middle/high/college students(n=429). Their close social relationships were evaluated through The Picture Affective Relationship Test(PART). Our results indicated that, there were clear differences in the types of close social relationships in accordance with gender and age. Specifically, the percentages of friends appeared highest in the male group and mothers were followed by the percentages of friends. Meanwhile, the percentages of mothers were highest in the female group and friends were followed by the percentages of mothers. Next, the percentages of mothers were highest in preschoolers. The percentages of siblings in elementary school students were relatively higher than those of other age groups. The percentages of friends were highest in middle/high school students. The percentages of romantic partners were relatively higher in the college students than those of other age groups.
